She sat on one end of the wooden bench. He sat on the opposite end. Where the other had come from neither knew. How long they had been sitting there neither wanted to know.
They stared straight ahead. What either saw neither could have said.
A song played softly. It was the song of silence.
They turned, surprised to discover they were not alone. They studied one another, for how long neither would ever know.
He smiled first.
