The Sixties: mystical, magical, wonderful. Love was everywhere, it was in the music, in the clothes you wore; the grass you smoked.
It was a time of change; a time when anything was possible. It was a great effort by humanity to change the world for the better; to right the wrongs and take a stand against the forces of evil.
Days of Wonder is a collections of vignettes that take place in this mythical time. It is the story of a young girl coming of age in Los Angeles during the Counter-Culture Revolution. Set against the backdrop of the political upheaval and unrest of the Sixties, and immersed in the drug culture which permeated the youth of that time, the events in this book take place from 1966 to 1971, and are as factual as I can relate them.
The often quoted “drugs, sex and rock ‘n roll” just about sums up the book; but not quite. Encounters with Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Joni Mitchell, and Grace Slick; experimentation and magical trips on acid, mescaline, pot, and pills of all kinds; love-ins, be-ins, protests, and rock concerts—all just another day in Wonderland.
Days of Wonder is nearly complete. When it is nearing publication I will notify you.
In the meantime, enjoy the newspaper headlines from that era and my blogs about the times and their effects on life as we know it. I will post a few chapters from the book on my site when they are ready for final publication.
Please share your experiences of the Sixties, or your own coming of age in the decades since then, through posts and/or emails. The Sixties are a time to be remembered and embraced. Search your heart and you will find the Sixties are with us today.
